The defendant dumped the body in Alabama using the victim’s car

Atlanta–Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr., announces the GUILTY PLEA of 26-year-old TEON GRAHAM.

On May 3, 2014, Teon Graham and 25-year-old Tion Casterman, the victim, were arguing inside their shared apartment on Byrere Terrace in Southwest Atlanta. Graham claimed that Casterman owed him $5,000.00 from a fraudulent student loan that they worked together to obtain. Graham said Casterman refused to pay him the money, and at some point during the argument he shot the victim, once, in the back of the head. The defendant called a mutual friend and told her that he killed the victim. The friend did not believe Graham, so he texted her a picture of Casterman’s body. Shortly thereafter, Graham drove to another friend’s house and forced him, at gunpoint, to help dispose of the victim’s body. Graham and his friend returned to the defendant’s apartment, and the friend saw Casterman’s body lying upon the hallway floor. The friend unwillingly helped the defendant load Casterman’s body into the victim’s trunk, and Graham drove to West Blocton, Alabama where he dumped the body in a tree lined area. The defendant was raised in Alabama and was familiar with the area where he dumped the body.

The next morning, on May 4, 2014, Graham drove the victim’s vehicle to the home of the mother of his child in Houma, Louisiana to hide out. Shortly after his arrival, Graham’s girlfriend and her mother received anonymous Facebook messages from people informing them of Casterman’s disappearance and Graham’s suspected involvement in the crime. Graham’s girlfriend’s mother immediately called the local sheriff’s office. Graham was arrested on an unrelated larceny warrant out of Alabama, but the defendant fully admitted to Casterman’s murder during his interview with detectives. Graham also provided the location of Casterman’s body which West Blocton, Alabama Police later located. Detectives discovered a .380 caliber pistol in Graham’s luggage which was matched to the bullet found in Casterman’s head.  A large quantity of blood found in the trunk of Casterman’s vehicle also matched the victim.

GRAHAM pleaded GUILTY to MURDER, FELONY MURDER, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON, THEFT BY TAKING, CONCEALING THE DEATH OF ANOTHER, POSSESSION OF A FIREARM DURING THE COMMISSION OF A FELONY, and POSSESSION OF A FIREARM BY A CONVICTED FELON, Graham was sentenced to LIFE IN PRISON.

Judge Eric Dunaway, of the Superior Court of Fulton County, presided over the case. Senior Assistant District Attorney Ryan Piechocinski led the prosecution of the case. He was assisted by Investigator Tiffany Griffin, and Victim-Witness-Advocate Alicia Gray of the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office. Detective D. Smith of the Atlanta Police Department was the Lead Investigator in the case.
