Victim was shot in the back of the neck

Atlanta–Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr., announces the MURDER conviction, by a Fulton County Superior Court Jury, of 22-year-old RAMZEY BUNKLEY.

On the night of September 21, 2015, 19-year-old Michael Gary was shot one time in the back of the head by Ramzey Bunkely, as Gary ran away from an attempted armed robbery. Gary and his two friends, Quentarious Cook and Jordan Bembry, went to a wooded area adjacent to the Camelot Club Condos on Old National Highway because they wanted to fire their handguns in a remote location. After walking into the woods, Ramzey Bunkley, and another unknown male came up behind the victims, brandished a firearm, and said to them,

“Give it up!”

17-year-old Bembry ran from the scene while Cook gave his wallet and jewelry to the defendant. Gary also attempted to run away, but Bunkley shot the victim in the back of the neck, severing his spine. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Cook ran from the wooded area and reunited with Bembry who had already fled the shooting scene. Bembry and Cook were able to identify Bunkley in a photographic lineup provided by the Fulton County Police Department. Investigators later discovered that Bunkley was a member of a prominent Atlanta criminal street gang. On January 6, 2016, Bunkley appeared in Fulton County Superior Court on an unrelated matter and was arrested by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department.

BUNKLEY was found guilty of PARTICIPATION IN CRIMINAL STREET GANG ACTIVITY, MURDER, FELONY MURDER, ARMED ROBBERY, CRIMINAL ATTEMPT TO COMMIT ARMED ROBBERY, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON, AND POSSESSION OF A FIREARM DURING THE COMMISSION OF A FELONY. Bunkley was sentenced to LIFE IN PRISON WITHOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF PAROLE PLUS 50 YEARS TO SERVE AND 5 YEARS CONSECUTIVE ON PROBATION.

Judge Shawn Ellen LaGrua, of the Superior Court of Fulton County, presided over the case. Executive Assistant District Attorney Linda Dunikoski prosecuted the case. She was assisted by Assistant District Attorney Shari Trahan and Investigator Michael Green of the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office. Detective B. Kitt of the Fulton County Police Department was the Lead Investigator in the case.
