Defendant was previously convicted of an Aggravated Assault with Intent to Rape in Bibb County

Atlanta–Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr., announces the RAPE conviction, by a Fulton County Superior Court Jury, of 38-year-old KRISTOPHER ROBERSON.

On August 8, 2014, the victim, in this case, was walking along Smith Street in Atlanta after leaving her aunt’s home. At some point, a gold Jeep pulled up beside her. When it came to a stop, Kristopher Roberson jumped out with a black pocket knife in his hand. The defendant forced the victim into his vehicle and drove to Mt. Moriah Primitive Baptist Church. Roberson parked his vehicle in the parking lot behind the church and ordered the victim to climb into the backseat.

Holding the knife in his hand, the defendant told the victim to bend over. Roberson licked the victim’s private areas and anally sodomized her. The victim complained of intense pain, so the defendant began to rape her vaginally. During the entire incident of severe sexual violence, Roberson maintained his dominance over the victim by holding the knife in his hand. After the defendant stopped raping the victim, she was able to unlock the back door of the Jeep. Shortly thereafter, she managed to escape the vehicle and ran from the scene. Roberson drove away from the church in his Jeep.

After fleeing the scene on foot, the victim knocked on the door of a nearby home in an attempt to receive help. A retired police officer, who lived in the neighborhood, heard the knocking and went outside to investigate. The retired officer encountered the victim and called 911. A “Be On the Lookout” notice was issued for the gold Jeep, and a short time later, Atlanta Police Officers spotted Roberson’s vehicle a few blocks from the scene of the crime. Roberson was arrested. A sexual assault kit was performed on the victim, and Roberson’s DNA was discovered.

Roberson was previously convicted of an Aggravated Assault with Intent to Rape in Bibb County that occurred a few days before the Fulton County rape. Bibb County law enforcement officials were able to identify Roberson as the suspect in their case using the DNA that was collected from the Fulton County rape.

Roberson will be sentenced
in 10 days.

Judge Henry Newkirk, of the Superior Court of Fulton County, presided over the case. Assistant District Attorney Tasha Pennant led the prosecution of the case. She was assisted by Assistant District Attorney Robert Springer, Investigator Robert Turner, and Victim-Witness Advocate Brandee Bolton of the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office. Investigators R. Sluss, A. Turner, and J. Golphin from the Atlanta Police Department were the Lead Investigators in this case.
