Defendant impersonated a police officer during assaults
Atlanta–Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr., announces the GRAND JURY INDICTMENT of 49-year-old MATTHEW MOORE on a series of charges including, RAPE.
Matthew Moore, a former Alabama Corrections Officer, has been indicted, by a Fulton County Grand Jury, for raping two women in Sandy Springs. The first incident occurred on June 17, 2010. The victim said she met Moore a few days earlier. The two later agreed to meet at a hotel in Sandy Springs. The woman said during that encounter, Moore was dressed in a police uniform, he was wearing a badge, and he had on a belt that contained pepper spray and a handgun. The victim told police that while they were inside the room, Moore ordered her to lie on the bed, and that’s when he raped her.
In the second incident on November 15, 2015, Moore met the victim on a dating site. During their encounter at the woman’s home, Moore requested she give him a massage. After it was over, Moore tied her up and pulled out a knife. Moore cut off her clothing and demanded she do whatever he asked. Moore also pointed a gun at the victim. He then raped the woman and recorded the entire incident on his cell phone. The victim escaped and entered a portion of the home where others were sitting. Witnesses saw Moore with his pants down. He brandished a firearm and threatened to hurt everyone in the room before leaving the home. When police arrived they found a bag filled with zip ties, stockings, and handcuffs. The handcuffs were inscribed with the name of the jail where Moore worked. Police officers also found DNA at the scene that matched that of Matthew Moore.
Moore is connected to several sexual assaults in Fulton County, Cobb County, Alabama, and Florida that go back to 2008. In many of those cases, he impersonated a police officer by brandishing a weapon and displaying a badge before raping the victims.
In the 2010 and 2015 incidents in Sandy Springs, Moore was indicted on the charges of, RAPE, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON, AGGRAVATED SODOMY, AGGRAVATED SEXUAL BATTERY, FALSE IMPRISONMENT, POSSESSION OF A FIREARM DURING THE COMMISSION OF A FELONY, POSSESSION OF A KNIFE DURING THE COMMISSION OF A FELONY, AND IMPERSONATING A POLICE OFFICER.
