Defendants were sentenced to (4) consecutive life sentences without parole plus 60 years
Atlanta–Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr., announces the GUILTY PLEAS of 44-year-old ANDRE GAY and 46-year-old RICHARD WILSON for the murders of 23-year-old JEONTA BROWN and 21-year-old BRIANA BROOKS.
On Monday, September 24, 2018, at 9:30am before Fulton County Superior Court Judge Kimberly M. Adams, Andre Gay and Richard Wilson pled guilty to the August 30, 2014, MURDERS of Jeonta Brown and Briana Brooks.
Just after midnight on August 30, 2014, Gay and Wilson kidnapped Brooks and Brown, believing one of their relatives recently received a significant amount of money from an insurance settlement. Hours into the kidnapping, the defendants called the victims’ family members asking for ransom in exchange for the return of the couple. Eventually, the defendants drove the victims to a location in Northwest Atlanta. Gay and Wilson shot Brown and Brooks in the back of the head and left them to die on the side of the Atlanta street. When Atlanta Police arrived they found the couple handcuffed together with their hands behind their backs. Brown was already dead while Brooks was unconscious but still gasping for air. She was transported to Grady Hospital where her unborn child was delivered two months early. Brooks died days later. Brown and Brooks were the parents of two other young children at the time of their deaths.
Gay and Wilson met in prison while serving sentences for homicides they committed separately in Fulton County. At the time of the 2017 incident when Jeonta Brown and Briana Brooks were killed, both Gay and Wilson had been released on parole. The parole system only required the two men to report by phone while completing their parole sentences. Gay and Wilson pled guilty on Monday to:
- FELONY MURDER
- CRIMINAL ATTEMPT TO COMMIT FETICIDE
- KIDNAPPING WITH BODILY INJURY
- KIDNAPPING FOR RANSOM
- AGGRAVATED ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON
- CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT KIDNAPPING WITH BODILY INJURY
- CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT KIDNAPPING FOR RANSOM
- POSSESSION OF FIREARM DURING COMMISSION OF A FELONY
- POSSESSION OF A FIREARM BY A CONVICTED FELON
