Crimes occurred during seven-year period and involved four different women

Atlanta–Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr., announces the INDICTMENT, by a Fulton County Grand Jury, of former East Point Police Sergeant, 38-year-old RICHARD GOODDINE.

The indictment against Gooddine contains (17) counts related to the inappropriate sexual contacts of four different female victims in 2011, 2016, 2017, and 2018. Two of the victims in this indictment were under the age of 16-years-old when the incidents occurred. Within the (17) count indictment there are several AGGRAVATED SEXUAL BATTERY charges, which each carry a sentence of 25 years to LIFE IN PRISON. The indictment also includes a charge that is based upon Gooddine’s attempt to intimidate and threaten the victim and her mother following the latest sexual assault in August 2018. After Gooddine assaulted that victim he arrived at Atlanta Medical Center South, where the 15-year-old girl was undergoing a sexual assault kit test. Gooddine roamed the hallways looking for the girl and her mother before hospital staff removed him from the property. Gooddine’s actions at the hospital and his threatening behavior toward the victim and her mother caused District Attorney Howard to seek immediate indictment against Gooddine.

“In my nearly twenty years of experience as an attorney, I have never heard of a case where an assailant attempted to contact his victim while she was undergoing tests at the hospital. His actions were unbelievable.”

Director, Public Integrity Unit

“I (F@$%&) up.”
