State vs. Derrick Burden
Atlanta– Jury selection is underway in the murder case against a Decatur man accused of robbing then killing two men inside an Atlanta townhome. 24-year-old Derrick Burden is charged with Murder (two counts) Felony Murder (six counts), Aggravated Assault, Armed Robbery and weapons charges in connection with the shooting deaths of 26-year-old Calvin Streater and 21-year-old Samuel Blizzard, Jr.
The men were gunned down on September 5, 2010 inside a Richmond Circle townhome near Brown’s Mill Road in Atlanta. Each was fatally shot in the head. Streater was visiting town from North Carolina for the weekend. Blizzard was temporarily living at the townhome with his cousin—one of the residents who discovered the victims’ bodies.
Following an extensive investigation, detectives developed Defendant Burden as a suspect in the case. He was arrested in April 2012 and indicted on murder charges in July 2012.
Opening statements are expected to begin on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 in courtroom 4F. Fulton County Superior Court Judge T. Jackson Bedford is presiding over the case.
