State v. Dandre Shabazz will commence in Courtroom 7F before Judge Thomas Cox

Atlanta—Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. announces the commencement of trial, in Fulton County Superior Court, for the RAPE case against 55-year-old DANDRE SHABAZZ.

On Tuesday, February 18, 2020, opening statements will begin in Fulton County Superior Courtroom 7F before Judge Thomas Cox in State v. Dandre Shabazz. Shabazz is a serial rapist who sexually assaulted, and in some cases kidnapped and robbed, (12) twelve women between 2002 and 2005. Shabazz is being prosecuted by the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office Sexual Assault Kit Initiative Taskforce. The unit is dedicated exclusively to investigating, indicting, and prosecuting cases, like this one, resulting from Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) matches. These are cases discovered through the forensic testing of backlogged sexual assault kits previously stored at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Judge Thomas Cox, of the Superior Court of Fulton County, is presiding over the case. Senior Assistant District Attorney Julianna Peterson, from the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office Sexual Assault Kit Initiative Taskforce, is leading the prosecution of the case. She is being assisted by Assistant District Attorney Kelcee Jones-Conner, Assistant District Attorney La’Porscha Smalls, Investigators James Spear and Erica Wimberly, and Victim-Witness Advocate Millicent Taylor of the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office. The Atlanta Police Department is the lead investigative agency in the case.
