As part of an internal reorganization designed to address the changing nature of violent crime in Fulton County, District Attorney Paul Howard established a new prosecution division in 2010, titling it ‘Violent Offenders’. The most complex and egregious crimes prosecuted by the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office fall under this sphere and are prosecuted by one of three units: Major Felony, Cold Case and Gangs & Drugs. In 2010, the Division garnered a 93% conviction rate for the 84 cases that proceeded to trial. In 2011, the Division improved its conviction rate to 97% for the 68 cases that proceeded to trial.
The Division is supervised by a Chief Executive District Attorney. Deputy District Attorneys lead the respective units which are staffed with experienced attorneys, investigators and legal assistants.
